Hotels – Spooky Haunts for Halloween

Halloween is on its way again and many people are now starting to decide on how they are going to celebrate. If you really want to go all out this year and celebrate in style then why not make a visit to some of the spookiest areas in America? You could combine Halloween with a well-earned break and take in some of the many chilling sights on offer whilst staying in one of the many hotels on offer. One such place would be Atlanta. Here you can take part in one of their spine-tingling ghost tours. On the tour you may witness things that you find difficult to explain. One group of eighth grade students got a fright after seeing a spectre on their tour and were seen running down a street screaming as a result. Another event that you may experience is catching a glimpse of a Civil War surgeon and perhaps the most chilling experience will be visiting an old jail where some have heard the sound of an old slave singing to his beloved after murdering his master. Another place that could be on your list is New York, here you could check into one of the many hotels in New York City and then venture out as it starts to go dark to explore Brooklyn’s historic Green-Wood Cemetery. Here you will be able to visit the “inhabitants” of the graveyard including; murderers, the murdered, those who died in very mysterious and questionable circumstances and also those who died as a result of tragic accidents. Whilst on your tour of this cemetery, you will hear many chilling tales of how people met their ends, one of which will be the tale of Bill the Butcher (from Martin Scorsese’s film; “Gangs of New York”) who is said to have survived for a whole two weeks after being shot in a bar fight. Another soul who you will be introduced to is Mabel Smith Douglass. Mabel’s body was found perfectly preserved in Lake Placed 30 years after her disappearance. It is always expected that hundreds of people will show up on this tour so people are advised to get there early. Another recommended place to visit when looking for spooky things to do on Halloween can be found in Orlando, Florida. It may not be the first place you think of for scary sights but Lake Wales in Florida is known for frightening people all year round and not just on Halloween. Spook Hill is the place that people visit where they put their car into neutral, take their foot off the brake and roll backwards uphill. This can make for a very otherworldly feel, even though some say that it is just an optical illusion. Whichever it is, it’s a very odd experience. If you have children or you just want to celebrate Halloween in style then you could find out the prices of some cheap hotels to stay in on your trip.
